The Community Action Project (CAP) works with the people of Smethwick to foster and support the development of individuals, groups, families and organisations within the African Caribbean and the wider communities.

Activities for Young People

Holiday Play Schemes - activities and entertainment that will keep children aged 5-14 busy during those long school breaks.

 

The Youth Forum - the empowerment of African Caribbean young people, giving them a voice and opportunity to air their views and concerns. A group that deals with issues affecting young people today. The forum features activities, entertainment and discussion groups.

 

Young People and IT - free extra tuition in the development of IT skills in an informal setting for young people between the ages of 13-19 years who are having difficulties at school or college, with a view to assisting with their personal and social development and to help them gain qualifications.

 

Activities for Senior Citizens

Senior Citizen's Club - providing a range of activities and a chance to socialise and debate in a warm, relaxing and friendly environment, primariliy for elder members of the African Caribbean community.

Employment Support

  • Advice with application forms

  • Assistance with finding jobs, further education and higher education places
  • Guidance on training and finding training places
  • Help with interview techniques
  • Advice on careers

The Sandwell Adult Guidance Network

  • Free access to up to date information on careers
  • Information on education and training options
  • Information on finding work
  • Access to careers information through a database and useful reference books

Community Safety

Helping to reduce crime and fear of crime in the local community by:

  • Developing Community Safety schemes, i.e. Community Safety Forum
  • Providing advice and information on safety issues
  • Safety training for individuals, groups and communities
  • Developing partnerships between community safety practitioners and communities

Interested Individuals and Organisations

CAP welcomes applications for membership from African Carribean individuals and representatives of community groups and organisations working in the voluntary sector.

 

Applications are also welcomed from members of the general public who wish to subscribe to the aims and objectivesof the organisation.
