Kuumba originates from an African word meaning creativity.
The Kuumba Centre is a service, provided by Sandwell African Caribbean Mental Health Foundation. We aim to improve the lives of African Caribbean people affected by mental ill health in and around the Sandwell borough by providing quality support services and information for families and carers on mental health issues. Referrals to the CentreReferrals are normally received from Community Mental health Teams, GP Surgeries, Hallam Street Hospital and Rethink (formerly NSF). Counselling ServiceThe Counselling Team will work to assist people to find their own solutions and feel more confident in taking control of their lives and relationships.
The Counsellors offer a service to current service users and also to people who want to access the counselling service at the Kuumba Centre for the first time. Meals and refreshmentsThere is a cooked meal available at the centre, at a cost of £3 for lunch with a pudding. Tea and coffee are available free of charge.
