What is it?

The Mary Seacole Centre is a supported housing scheme and day care centre for older African Caribbean people in Sandwell.

Where is it?

The Mary Seacole Centre is the newest part of Bromford House, which has been providing care for older people for about 30 years. The centre is in Moor Street, West Bromwich. It is next to a Post Office and there are local shops and pubs nearby. There is a bus stop outside and it is near West Bromwich Town Centre.

What can we offer you?

The day centre is open five days a week, providing care for older African Caribbean people from Sandwell. Each day there will be activities on offer, as well as a chance to talk to other people and share your experiences of life.

The Mary Seacole Centre is a new joint venture between Bromford Resource Centre and the West Bromwich African Caribbean Resource Centre. Working together, we are developing new services for the better health and well being of older people.

Whilst you are at the Mary Seacole Centre, we will try our best to help you keep active and mobile. If you need any specialist help to improve your health, we can arrange this for you.

Who will help me?

The centre is staffed by people with lots of experience in caring for older people. They will come from a similar cultural background as yourself and will take special pride in tailoring the service to meet your individual circumstances. Staff are always on hand to assist with your personal care needs.

What about meals?

There is a choice of menu for all meals and African Caribbean cuisine will be available as well as other choices. We can help you with special diets, for example diabetes.

What short breaks do you offer?

Depending on your needs, you can stay with us for a short break. This might be to help you get over an accident or illness before returning home or it may be so that your carers can attend a family event, or take a break or have a holiday.

What accommodation is there?

The centre is on the ground floor and there is a lounge diner, lounge, kitchen and bathroom. The décor is fresh and bright and the atmosphere warm and welcoming. The bedrooms are next to the Day Centre and are all single rooms. Comfortable furnishings and a cover call system will help to make your stay comfortable and safe.
