Oscar Sandwell LogoOSCAR is the pioneering Sickle Cell Organisation in the United Kingdom. This voluntary organisation was founded in 1975 by a sickler who, through personal experience, realised that there was inadequate information available to people who suffered from Sickle Cell. He also realised that their families / carers, as well as the general public, were lacking in information and support.

Initially the service was confined to local areas of Birmingham, but in 1988 OSCAR Sandwell was set up to extend the services in the West Midands.

OSCAR exists primarily for people and their families with Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia blood disorder. OSCAR also endeavours to be of assistance to the general public who may have a query regarding the disorder.
