This service provides:

  • A FREE service for people wanting to cut down or stop drinking

  • Alcohol information and advice

  • Confidential advice, support, counselling and groupwork, in Punjabi, English, Urdu or Hindi

  • Support for relatives and friends of drinkers

  • Open 9.00 am to 5.00 pm Monday to Friday by appointment only, plus evening service.

The latest research indicates that Asians were four times more likely to die from liver problems than their white counterparts.

 

Indian women reported their experience of physical and verbal abuse, fear and absence of the husband from their family home, as consequences of their husband's excessive alcohol use. Further consequences include low self-esteem and marriage break up.

 

The consumption of alcohol by Pakistani men in Sandwell is said to be more widespread than might have been assumed on the basis of membership of Islamic faith. This may underpin some of the reported physical abuse of Pakistani women.
