Bangladeshi Islamic CentreThe Bangladeshi Islamic Centre (BIC) is a voluntary charity organisation funded by the local council, which was officially set up in 1987.

 

The centre's main objective is to promote the well being of the local community, particularly the Bangladeshi community, which is the most disadvantaged in the area.

 

The centre offers a range of services consisting of health advice, welfare rights advice, housing advice, employment and training advice, ESOL classes, youth activities, health events and open days, access to voluntary and statutory organisations, education, sports development, library, mariage registration etc.

 

BIC employs a full time Centre Manager, a Womens Development Worker, Male Health and Advice Worker, a part time Youth Outreach Worker, a Children's Fund Family Liaison Worker and an Administrative Assistant.

 

BIC works closely with the Council, Health Authority, Voluntary and Statutory Organisations within Sandwell, to enhance the quality of life of the local Bangladeshi community.

Youth Outreach Project

The Bangladeshi Islamic Centre is a community organisation based in North Smethwick that provides numerous services to the local community.

The Bangladeshi Youth Outreach Project was established in 2000 in order to focus on and address the following issues:

  • To work primarily with at risk young people aged 12-24 from the Bangladeshi community
  • To focus on the health needs o the young Bangladeshi community
  • To address issues in respect of educational attainment and unemployment
  • Increase recreational and sporting activities
  • Target and address issues of community safety
  • Prevent and reduce drug related offences
  • Develop relationships with Bangladeshi young people to empower and encourage their participation in the community
