Vision

A community working together – united in harmony, empowered, informed and making decisions that take the whole community forward to a better quality of life where we all thrive in education and employment and are proud of our religions and cultures.


Aims and Objectives

The North Smethwick Resource Centre is a much-needed facility to meet the needs of the disadvantaged local Bangladeshi community as well as those of all other sections of the North Smethwick community. At its core it has a number of key aims:

  • To serve the needs of the communities of North Smethwick with particular reference to the local Bangladeshi Community
  • To improve access to education, training and employment opportunities for the local communities.
  • To address the issues of poverty, isolation, ill-health that face disadvantaged communities in North Smethwick.
  • To develop a recreational facility to meet the needs of young people and thus assist in promoting community harmony
  • To provide a focal point for the delivery of existing and future services and initiatives within an area currently lacking such provision.
  • To be self sufficient to cover the costs of the overheads of the centre, tapping local and national grant sources and developing significant income generation.

The objectives will be achieved by:

  • Delivery of a range of courses aimed at improving skill levels – i.e. IT Training, ESOL, Childcare, Youth work
  • Assist with job search and preparation
  • Providing advice, information and guidance on education, employment and training
  • Developing and delivery health awareness activities and services
  • Provide recreational opportunities for local young people
  • Provide crèche facilities for parents accessing services at the centre
  • Home work support classes including linking up to the Smethwick Learning Network

The Centre also has a number of secondary objectives:

  • To develop a co-ordinated approach to service provision within the area in partnership with current and future service providers.
  • To develop and manage a combination of activities, tailored to the needs and aspirations of the local community, effectively and successfully
  • To capacity build and actively involve local people
  • To enable service providers to gain better access to the local community
  • To provide a stimulus to further development amongst the local Bangladeshi community

The centre is continuously developing the services it offers to the community and can now boast of excellent IT facilities, childcare services, support in finding employment and training, homework classes, health and fitness facilities, health advice, and many of the facilities can be hired for private use.
