Living in a world of constant change SILCS is able to help you with language and communication issues.
No agency can provide a fair or effective service to people with whom it cannot communicate. The effects of non-communication can lead to the build up of frustration, anger, misunderstanding, time wasting, inappropriate intervention, withholding entitlements, misdiagnosis or even miscarriages of justice.
SILCS AimsTo help organisations recognise and alleviate communication barriers by improving access to services for minority ethnic groups through the provision of better verbal and written communication.
To increase the cultural understanding of and sensitivity to the language needs of minority communities by service professionals through training and development.

Code of PracticeSILCS have produced a 'Code of Practice for Service Professionals', which contains detailed information on what your role is when working with an interpreter as well as how to work with a SILCS interpreter. To obtain a copy please contact the SILCS office.
