The Family Learning Project is a lottery-funded initiative to encourage parents to play a greater role in their children’s academic learning and personal development. The project focuses on North Smethwick, West Bromwich and Wednesbury and is aimed primarily at Bangladeshi and Pakistani families.
Bangladeshi and Pakistani children are underachieving at school and are not performing as well as their counterparts. This is despite the fact that their families value education highly and expect them to gain worthwhile qualifications.
Project Officers Rothna and Irfan will deliver fun learning sessions for parents and children. These sessions will focus on encouraging creativity, fostering understanding and promoting family bonding. With a view to building a culture of learning within local communities, the project works closely with education providers, community centres and other stakeholders.
