Humdard is an Asian term expressing empathy and friendship with the support of others. This project provides help and support for Asian women who are experiencing domestic violence.
Humdard understands and is sensitive to the needs of asian women and their children. The project aims to empower women to make their own decisions about the direction of their lives with the support required.
24 hour information and support lineThe helpline is open to both Asian women who are experiencing domestic violence and to the agencies who need to refer Asian women to the project for help and support.
The support provided is tailored to the need and is focussed around an understanding of the culture, language and an awareness of the issues of domestic violence. The helpline is covered by workers and volunteers who have been provided with training.
All information is treated with the strictest of confidence.
Emergency AccommodationThe emergency accommodation can be accessed via the helpline and is in the form of individual houses for families supported by workers. The houses are furnished and ready to move into.
Families are supported by the workers who provide a basic food parcel, help them with making applications for housing and benefits and making contact with essential services such as G.P's, schools etc.
Outreach ServiceHumdard recognises that there are still many women who are experiencing violence within the community who do not want or are not in a position to access emergency accommodation. The outreach service allows women to have regular contact with workers who will aim to help and support them where possible.
This service would also extend to women who have left emergency accommodation and are trying to settle back into the community.
This is a CONFIDENTIAL service
