Whatever your age, whatever job, whatever you do in life a good understanding of everyday Maths and English skills will improve your confidence and help you to get ahead!

Learndirect Sandwell offers a range of Maths and English courses to help you improve your everyday literacy and numeracy skills.  The courses give you many opportunities to practice new skills and test your progress as you go along.

Everyday Maths Skills

We all use numbers everyday of our life in our jobs, at the shops, helping the kids with their homework and even to work out our bills!

The Learndirect Everyday Maths courses have been especially designed to help you improve your number skills you most often use.  Whether you want to brush up on the basic of adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing or maybe you need to take a fresh look at how to solve number problems like percentages, fractions, decimals and measurements.

The course are packed with interactive activities so you can check your understanding as you go along and practice your new number skills in realistic everyday situations.

Everyday English Skills

Literacy skills are used in a variety of situations in everyday life, whether you need to follow written instructions, fill out a form or write a letter, being able to read and write clearly is important, if you want to make yourself understood.

Everyday English courses will help you to feel more confident and comfortable in reading and writing in everyday situations.  There are courses to suit all levels of learning and each one focuses on different key skills ranging from how to follow instructions to filling out forms.  They also help you to understand certain rules of spelling when writing letters.

Qualifications

Receiving a qualification at the end of your course is a great sense of achievement as well as showing the world that you can do it.

Most jobs now require you to have a Level 2 qualification in Maths and English (GCSE or equivalent) and many courses also request them as part of their entry requirements.

These Learndirect courses will prepare you for the City and Guilds Certificate in Adult Literacy or Numeracy at Level 1 or Level 2.

Getting Started

1) Just call 0121 569 8409 and tell us which centre you would like to study at, let us know if you have any preferred days or times and what you would like to learn.  The team will then book you in for an induction session at your chosen venue.

2) On the induction day, you just need to go into the centre taking with you some ID (something with your name and address on e.g. Driving Licence, utility bill, etc).  The centre tutor will then explain how the courses work and put you on an Initial Assessment.  This will check your skills so that you only have to work on the topics that you need to brush up on.

You will then need to attend the centre for at least one session (2 hours) per week.  The centre tutor will support you through your courses.
