Modern Apprenticeships

Workplus is part of Sandwell College that is dedicated to providing you with an excellent training service and ensuring that you get the most out of your apprenticeship.

An apprenticeship will provide you with paid employment, good qualifications and excellent career prospects. It gives you the opportunity to work and study in an employment area that you are interested in. If you decide to study in this way you will be employed and earning a wage as well as coming to college to study for a qualification. Apprenticeships last for one, two or three years, after which you can progress onto higher education or secure full time employment.

You are earning and learning at the same time and with the apprenticeship, gaining valuable skills, which make you an asset to employers, alongside training for an identified career path.

Applicants for this apprenticeship programme must be aged between 16 - 24 years.

Work based assessments and project work form the basis of this qualification and your tutors will support you throughout the course with your portfolio management and completion.

The programme is based in a work placement for four days and in college or training organisation one day each week. The emphasis is on the development and demonstration of real workplace skills.

If you are not already employed we can assist you in finding suitable work placements for the programme, where the employer will provide a wage.

Alternatively, Workplus often organises a training allowance, but places on this scheme are limited, so an early application is advised.

You will also study for a Technical Certificate and Key Skills at an appropriate level including Communication, Application of Number, Information Technology, Working with Others, Problem Solving and Improving Learning & Performance.

E2E Entry to Employment

This course is for you if you are not yet ready or able to enter modern apprenticeship programmes or employment. This would include you if you are looking for, but are not currently undertaking any training, employment or education, mainly due to a learning or social need. This course is not time bound, you may remain on the programme until you are ready to progress. It will help prepare you for progression to employment, training or further education. There are three strands to E2E, vocational, employability skills and personal development. You may qualify for a training allowance and a bonus system, which is linked to individual achievements. The college works in partnership with Connexions on this course.
