Aims:

  • To support people with Parkinson's Disease, their family and friends.
  • To collect and pass on information relating to Parkinson's Disease.
  • To raise funds for research into the illness.

 

 

Meetings

Monthly meetings are held the first Tuesday of every month from 11.00am 12.30pm. Meetings are held at:

 

Community Room,
Waltham House

Overend Street

West Bromwich 

B70 6ER

 

The Young Parkinson's Group meets on the last Wednesday of the month from 7.30pm to 9.30pm at:

 

Parish Rooms,

92 Mckean Road,

Oldbury

 

The meetings are informal and everyone is welcome – including family, friends or carers. The talks range from the job of a Parkinson's nurse, aromatherapists to finding out about a donkey sanctuary!

  

  

  

Information and Support Worker

 

What do I do?

  • Provide information and practical advice on coping with Parkinson's Disease
  • Provide support & guidance about day-to-day living, respite & holiday care
  • Advise on benefits
  • Build and maintain working relationships with professionals, social services, healthcare, statuary & voluntary
  • Make appropriate referrals – community care assessments, OT, speech therapy etc.

 

Maintain Independence and Individuality

I can help you to do this by providing a listening ear and information, such as:

  • What is Parkinson's Disease?
  • Basic drug advice – what do the drugs do?
  • What benefits can I claim, and where do I get more help with claiming them?
  • Who else can help? More information about Social Services, Age Concern, Ring & Ride etc
  • Outreach services
  • Strategies for coping… sharing experiences and seeking other help such as
      • Branch support
      • Young Parkinson's Group
      • Yappars (younger Parkinson's group)
      • National Help-lines
      • Alternative therapies
