Consider the Rewarding Career Opportunities As A "Carer Support Worker"

A carern is someone who, without payment, provides help and support to a partner, child, relative, friend or neighbour, who could not manage without their help.  This could be due to age, physical or mental illness or addiction.

Our Service

Most of us juggle busy lives, but for carers, providing support for a relative, partner or friend, the pressures can be enormous.

More than six million people, including 175,000 young carers under the age of 18, give their time in this way - that's one in eight people in the UK.

Some of our clients live alone and can benefit from having a Carer Support Worker call to assist them with their daily living.

Our service is open to those using Direct Payment or individual budgets and families wishing to purchase and arrange their own care.

You can also access our care through Social Services and the local Primary Care Trust, by contacting your local Social Services, Social Worker, District Nurse or GP.

Our Staff

Our Carer Support Workers provide a range of services for older peoplke, younger people suffering from a physical or mental illness, sensory impairment, or those sadly suffering from a terminal illness, here are a few of the ways they can help;

  • Assistance with social activities
  • Support with personal care
  • Shopping, or taking someone shopping
  • Day or Night Sitting Service

Many of our families care for someone with profound and difficult care needs, our staff are fully trained in NVQ II and III in Care, who also hold qualifications covering a range of caring support specialities.

Please contact us on the telephone number below for more information or to speak informally and confidentially with one of our Care Coordinators.  They would be delighted to listen and see if they can help you.

Sandwell Crossroads for Carers is a registered charity.  Our continuing good work partly relies on donations, which are gratefully received.

How we can help you

You will have discussed your needs with your Care Coordinators, who will have described the type of help a Carer Support Worker may perfom and whether Crossroads' help is appropriate for you.  If Sandwell Crossroads is able to thelp you, the Care Coordinator will have agreed with you the time when help will be provided and how often this will be.

The Care Coordinator will normally introduce your Carer Support Worker to you and you will have ample opportunity to explain your usual routine to her or him.  When a Carer Support Worker is absent through illness or holiday, we always try our best to provide a replacement.

If you feel that your needs have changed for some reason or you would like to alter your arrangements please feel free to contact your Care Coordinator or send a message through your Carer Support Coordinator or send a message through your Carer Support worker.  Remember - we try as far as possible to remain a user-led service and to fit our service around your needs.

Why do we need a Compliments and Complaints Procedure?

Sandwell Crossroads aims to provide a high-quality, responsieve, user-led service.  In order to ensure we do so we need to take account of the views and wishes of those we are here to help.  We welcome every opportunity to monitor and improve our service and having a 'complaints and compliments' policy and a clear procedure for resolving complaints is one way of doing this.

If you wish to comment about our service, whether positively or negatively, we will be pleased to hear from you.

Please don't be afraid that you may lose the service or that you will be thought of as a nuisance by complaining.   Our service is only as good as you allow it to be!
