Who are the Young Carers?

You can be a Young Carer if you are:

  • Under 18 years of age
  • Looking after a relative who has an illness and or disability. This may include use of alcohol and /or drugs

This usually means that you have a parent, brother sister and or other relative living at home with you who needs your help!


As a Young Carer what sort of things can I get involve with?

 

Monday Club

For Young Carers aged 12-18

Group A – Sandwell South
Group B – Sandwell North

Both groups meet at 6.45pm – 8.45pm on alternate weeks at the Sandwell Young Carers Centre.

 

Activities on offer:

  • Pool, Table Tennis
  • T.V.
  • Music Mixing System

Two experienced Youth Workers run the Club. Members also have access to a Support Worker.

 

Drop In

For Young People aged 11-18.
The Drop-In is held at the Sandwell Young Centre every Tuesday and Wednesday evening 6.00pm-9.00pm.member can “drop-in” between these times for as long as they wish.

 

Art and Crafts activities, topic based workshops and training sessions are on offer run by specialist workers. The Drop-in is supervised by experienced Youth Workers.

 

Support Worker

For Young carers aged 12 - 18
A Support Worker

  • is at the end of a telephone, at clubs and at activities so that young carers can ask for support
  • will listen to you and help you ask for the relevant services to make life easier
  • will also promote training and personal development for members of the Sandwell Young Carers.
