STAY - Telecare

STAY (Sandwell Telecare Assisting You) is the name for an innovative service to help people live at home as safely and independently as possible.

Formerly called Telecare, STAY assesses for, provides installs and maintains a huge variety of equipment to enable people to remain independent and safe within their homes.

The purpose of the name change is to better reflect the aims of the service, jointly funded by Sandwell Council and Sandwell Primary Care Trust.

Leader of Sandwell Council and former cabinet member for adult services and health Cllr Darren Cooper said: "STAY is about helping people who want to continue to live in their homes but who might need assistance to do so. The Telecare team identified that the residents of Sandwell did not know what Telecare was, or how much it could potentially help them. Hence STAY (Sandwell Telecare Assisting You) was created”.

There are five main principles to Telecare these are well illustrated by STAY's awareness campaign inviting the people of Sandwell to STAY Independent, STAY Assured, STAY Healthy, STAY safe but most importantly STAY in your home.

“Whether it is helping someone who might forget to take their medication or someone who is at risk of a fall or another who needs a light which switches on automatically if they need to get out of bed during the night, there are a huge range of tasks STAY can assist with."

STAY equipment ranges from fall and movement sensors to smoke and flood detectors, pendant and automatically triggered alarms and remote control switches.

Equipment and services provided by STAY are free of charge to Sandwell residents However some equipment may require a connection to Sandwell Homes' Community Alarms Service, in these instances a monitoring charge of £3.93 per week will be made by them. You can request a financial assessment should you have difficulty affording their charges.
