Electronic Assistive Technology in Sandwell

 

 

What is Electronic Assistive Technology?

 

Electronic Assistive Technology refers to a range Of electronic devices that have been developed to assist people with physical, sensory or mental health difficulties, to continue to live at home as safely and as independently as possible. It also describes devices that enable health status to be monitored remotely.

 

In Sandwell, the Telecare Team is responsible for the provision of specialist Electronic Assistive devices and the co-ordination of their installation.

  

Telecare equipment aims to:

  • Assist people to monitor and maintain a safe home environment
  • Assist carers to monitor home safety from a distance
  • Reinforce fall and accident prevention strategies
  • Prevent avoidable hospital admissions

 

What equipment is available?

 

The list of equipment is constantly expanding.  It currently includes.

 
  • Fall detectors
  • Movement sensors
  • Gas lock off valves
  • Smoke detectors / heat detectors
  • Door and window contacts
  • Automatic medication reminder devices
  • Flood detectors
  • High and low temperature sensors
  • Automatic night light sensors
  • Alarm buttons / pendants
  • Remote control switches

  

The sensors can be programmed to alert an individual or their carer via;

  • A mobile phone
  • A community alarm call centre
  • An audible alarm in the house
  • Vibrating pager
