Central Mediation Service is a service designed to help in matters of dispute between neighbours, colleagues, friends and families.

Central Mediation Service has been in existence for 16 years and is core funded by Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council for the provision of Community Mediation for all the residents of Sandwell. The organisation has been a memebr of Mediation UK since 1994 and is a registered charity. The service also works in partnership with the National Probation Service West Midlands in the provision of Victim /Offender mediation within Sandwell and Dudley and works closely with HM Young Offender Institution Brinsford in providing mediation between inmates and their victims. More recently Sandwell Mediation Service has entered a partnership with Birmingham City Councils Youth Offending Service for the provision of restorative justice work within it's Intensive Supervision and Surveillance Programme.

Central Mediation Service has recently secured funding through the Legal Service Commission to undertake a three - year pilot project to provide a process of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), through mediation to the residents of Sandwell free at the point of delivery. The new ADR project has recently started and involves a dedicated mediator who will endeavour to assist individuals who are in conflict with each other over a variety of issues. By the intervention of the mediator it is hoped that lengthy and costly legal proceedings can be avoided.

What is ADR?

Alternative Dispute Resolution is an alternative method of resolving a dispute rather than pursuing litigation through the civil courts. There are various types of Alternative Dispute Resolution processes such as arbitration, expert determination, and conciliation however; it is thought that mediation is one of the most frequently used, and most used effective ways of Dispute Resolution.
