The Recruitment Toolkit: A step-by-step guide to working with a children and young people’s interview panel in recruitment

The purpose of the recruitment toolkit is to increase the involvement of children and young people in recruiting staff by providing practitioners and organisations with the information, confidence “tools” to make this possible. The outcomes and benefits for children and young people include:

  • Increase in confidence, skills and knowledge

  • Getting more effective, appropriate staff that address their needs

  • Developing positive relationships with staff

  • Feeling satisfied about their participation, achievements and their influence over change

  • Feeling ownership of the service

This resource will inform practitioners and organisations:

  • When it is appropriate to work with a children and young peoples recruitment panel.
  • How to identify the panel.
  • How to support and train the panel, proving all the additional resources needed.
  • How to prepare and organise the logistical element of involving children and young people in recruitment
  • How to support the panel during the interviews and when feeding back to the adult panel
  • How to reward and evaluate the involvement of children and young people
