Get Composting This Year | Print |
Monday, 12 January 2009

Plant CompostSandwell residents are being urged to add home composting to their list of New Year's resolutions.

Sandwell council is partnered with the recycle now compost at home campaign run by W.R.A.P. (Waste & Resources Action Programme) to offer compost bins and accessories to Sandwell residents at reduced prices.

Residents can produce soil conditioning compost for their gardens and plant pots at home by using home compost bins.

A wide range of materials can be composted at home including fruit, vegetables, garden waste, tea bags and cardboard.

Cllr Mahboob Hussain, Sandwell's cabinet member for neighbourhoods and housing, said: "I would urge residents who don’t yet make their own compost at home to order a compost bin now and reap the benefits."

He added: "Garden waste collected by the council is composted using an open, large scale method of composting which cannot compost any food or cardboard waste. Composting at home is an ideal way to make use of this extra waste."

The bargain prices of only £17 for a 220-litre compost bin and £20 for a 330-litre compost bin include free delivery.

To order a compost bin log on to www.recyclenow.com/compost or call 0845 077 0757. The website includes information on how to start composting, the types of bins available and how to get most out of them.
