News

Edward Street hospital in West Bromwich supports older adults experiencing mental health problems, such as depression and the effects of dementia.  A group of volunteers working for the benefit of patients, staff and carers are looking for new faces to join them.

Known locally as “Edward Street Friends”, the volunteers manage a small coffee bar called Freddy’s, which is regarded as the “heart of the hospital”, They also run a befriending service and undertake general committee work.

The Befriending Service in particular needs individuals who feel they can offer friendship, and support people to stay well and continue with their recovery.

Edward Street Friends are very keen to encourage new volunteers to join them. No previous experience of volunteering or working with people with mental health conditions is needed, as training and support will be offered.

If you have a few hours to spare and would like to know more about becoming a volunteer, please contact the Volunteer co-ordinator, Liz Gatwick on 0121 357 6945 Or at Freddy’s coffee bar on 0121 612 8233

For general information about the League of friends contact Pat Collins on 0121 308 7854
