The 'R U Well Protected This Summer' advertising campaign is being jointly run by working in partnership between the Children & Young People’s Trust, DECCA (Drug Education, Counselling and Confidential Advice) Team and the Primary Care Trust and is funded by the Teenage Pregnancy Strategy.

The aim of the campaign is to raise awareness of the importance of using contraception to prevent an unexpected pregnancy or sexually transmitted infections as well as raising awareness of local services that are available to young people in Sandwell. The campaign commenced at the beginning of May 2008 and will finish at the end of September 2008.

Information And Additional Materials

R U Well Protected this Summer? The ’R U Well Protected This Summer’ posters have been distributed to various organisations requesting them to display the materials in area’s accessed by the general public.  And also ensuring that colleagues who work with young people are aware of this information.  This will enable them to direct young people to the relevant services.  Additional materials such as bus pass wallets, stickers, postcards, credit cards and condoms wallets have been offered to organisations to circulate to young people.

Website

The http://www.ourguideto.co.uk/ website covers up to date drugs, alcohol and health information, including sexual health, teenage pregnancy and a comprehensive list of services that are available to young people in Sandwell.  The website also features a sexual health quiz with the participation of some of the members on the Teenage Pregnancy Young People’s Board.

Radio/Magazine Adverts

To reach a large number of young people during the summer, the campaign and website was advertised on Galaxy radio from 19th May 2008 to 1st June 2008.  In addition, the poster has been advertised in our local young people’s magazine ‘Voice 21’. Conception rates increase at this time of year so it was important to get the message out to those who had left school.

Community Events

To reach young people during the summer holiday period information stands and promotional goods for the campaign will be provided at community events, such as the Sandwell Show.
