Sandwell Board say 'No' to Abuse through new Safeguarding eLearning Courses | Print |

Abuse

For too long people have been unaware of how to report abuse.

In Sandwell the protection of vulnerable adults is taken very seriously and agencies work together to prevent it and protect the public.

The message to the people of Sandwell is that abuse against vulnerable adults will not be tolerated.

There are different types of abuse which can happen in many places, and there are many people who could be abusers.

By using electronic learning (or ‘eLearning’) you can find out how to recognise and respond to any abuse that is experienced or witnessed.

Electronic learning, as part of a range of Safeguarding learning opportunities, is now 6 months old and getting a face-lift!

New FREE courses for the New Year are:

• Understanding the Mental Capacity Act

• The Deprivation of Liberty (DoLS) Safeguards Overview

• Dignity and Respect

• Introduction to Forced Marriage and Honour Based Violence

Are you a carer in a small group home or a volunteer in a lunch club?
Do you look after a relative at home or are in a similar role?

These courses are for you if you work with vulnerable adults living in Sandwell. This may appeal to you if you juggle commitments making it hard to attend a regular course, have mobility or health problems that make travel difficult, live a long way from training venues, have irregular working hours or shift patterns.

All courses are accessible from any computer and available FREE twenty-four hours seven days a week.

Electronic learning is very flexible. You can learn from home or work or at your local library so long as you have access to the Internet.

When you access eLearning you will visit a new ‘Dynamic Learning Environment’ with added features. This will be more user friendly, easier to navigate, have extra modules, and our distinctive Sandwell Safeguarding Adults Board branding.

You will have the opportunity to feed back about your learning experience. You will be able to produce your own learning certificate as a personal record of your achievements. We continually strive to improve learning for everyone involved with vulnerable adults.

Learners have enjoyed completing the Safeguarding Adults Raising Awareness course have reported that their learning experience was enjoyable and their objectives were met. They particularly felt that learning about types of abuse and advocacy were extremely effective and overall achieved a 70% increase in their knowledge. All confirmed they will certainly recommend our eLearning to others.

Now log on at www.learningpool.com/sandwell and get your learning off to a great start!

The full programme of Safeguarding Adults learning and development opportunities can be found on the website at http://www.sandwell.gov.uk/info/731/protection_of_vulnerable_adults/658/safeguarding_adults/8.
