Sandwell MBC

A special preview of a website aimed at promoting youth activities in Sandwell took place at Coneygre Youth Arts Centre in Tipton.

Young people who were heavily involved in the design development of http://www.justyouth.org.uk/ were invited to the centre last night (Thursday) to be the first to sample the fruits of their labour.

The website provides young people with information about activities happening in the borough and allows them to register their details and specify their interests online. Young people can receive email and text alerts around their particular likes and dislikes.

Features include a mileage counter that calculates how far from their homes activities are and how many calories they will burn, along with a measure of how much CO2 emission they will prevent if they choose to walk to events and activities.

The website also provides information about services and support available to young people in the borough.

Cllr Ian Jones, Sandwell Council's cabinet member for children and young people said: "I would like to thank all the young people involved in developing and designing the website. I am certain the website will be a valuable resource to all young people in Sandwell. It will be a great way to find out what young people in the borough think and what their concerns are."

Local groups and organisations will be able to register online and post activities and events aimed at 13-19 year olds on the website for free.
