Injury Minimization Programme for Schools (I.M.P.S) | Print |

The Injury Minimization Programme For Schools seeks to reduce the number of accidents children have by teaching them skills to help them make safer choices in the future. It also serves to raise awareness of hazards in their environment.

I.M.P.S.The programme is aimed at year six pupils, who are statistically at higher risk.  The course comprises of a resource pack that teaches Injury Minimisation through each of the curricular subjects and an exciting visit to the Accident & Emergency department at Sandwell Hospital.

A key element of the hospital visit is to teach children how to treat common injuries, such as burns, bleeding and Emergency Life Support (how to treat an unconscious casualty). These life skills are important, we often hear of children calling help and or treating a parent if they collapse.

I.M.P.S. is funded by Sandwell PCT’s & Sandwell Children’s Fund. As such, it is free to Sandwell schools, although you will need to provide your own transport to and from Sandwell hospital. Schools in close proximity may choose to walk.

For maximum impact, the hospital setting is preferable. We can, however, deliver IMPS sessions in school if transport proves to be a problem.
