54 Schools are enrolled on the programme, with approximately 2400 children participating each academic year. I.M.P.S. is funded by Sandwell Primary Care Trust. As such, it is free to Sandwell schools, although schools will need to fund transportation to and from Sandwell hospital. Schools in neighbouring boroughs can access the service, but will need to fund both their visit and travel. The Injury Minimization Programme For Schools was designed by a multi-disciplinary team in health and education. It’s objective is to reduce disability and death as a result of accidents; it targets children between the ages of 10 and 11 who statistically are at greater risk.
The programme consists of:
- A 65 page resource pack that teaches Injury Minimization through each of the curricular subjects.
- An exciting visit to the Accident & Emergency department at Sandwell Hospital.
- An interactive online resource IMPSquiz.
A key element of the hospital visit is to teach children how to treat common injuries, such as burns, bleeding and Emergency Life Support (how to treat an unconscious casualty). These life skills are important; we often hear of children calling help and/or treating a parent if they collapse. I.M.P.S. is funded by Sandwell Primary Care Trust. As such, it is free to Sandwell schools, although schools will need to fund transportation to and from Sandwell hospital.
The IMPulance can be booked to visit your early years group or community event. Contact us for further details including prices.
