NewsSchools across the midlands are being called to dish the dirt on healthy living by taking part in a "Wellies to Bellies" campaign that promotes the benefits of growing your own food and living a healthy lifestyle.

Local company - Gro-Organic works with schools to help children and their families understand the importance and benefits of making healthy and sustainable food choices.

By working to support schools in bridging the gap between learning and health priorities, Gro-Organic provide installation of raised vegetable beds coupled with hands on food growing experiences that link to the EYFS and national curriculum.

Children participating in this campaign will enjoy a range of fun activities including group energisers to support the governments 5-a-day initiative as well as practical tasks including soil preparation, planting and seed sowing and scarecrow making from recycled materials.

Leading the campaign is Darryl Ryan and Sarah Gill, founders of Gro-Organic. "Schools are in a unique position to help children understand the importance and benefits of making healthy and sustainable food choices" said Sarah "Gro-Organics "Wellies to Bellies" campaign will work with schools and their communities in assisting them in turning their existing food culture into one that focuses on health, wellbeing and life skills as well as providing an opportunity for broader learning. We aim to provide outdoor learning that can be enjoyable, creative, challenging and adventurous whilst helping children and young people learn by experience which in turn will grow their confidence and assist in their development by becoming responsible citizens We have received excellent feedback from Schools and the pupils involved and what better way to engage and inspire children to grow their own than in an outdoor classroom"
