PSHE CPD | Print |

From September 2008 we are delivering the National PSHE CPD programme in partnership with the Birmingham Health Education Service.

The programme lasts for 12 months during which time participants receive training to develop and enhance their knowledge and methodologies relevant to PSHE and Sex and Relationship Education. Over the period they are supported in compiling a professional development record evidencing how they meet nationally agreed standards in their planning and delivery of PSHE and SRE. Participants are required to attend 6 training days and funding of £200 is available to each participant to support their attendance at the sessions.

The purpose of the programme is to:

  • Improve the competence and confidence of those delivering PSHE
  • Raise the quality of teaching and learning in PSHE
  • Enable participants to effect positive change in PSHE planning, delivery and development within their settings

Teachers that have completed the programme have felt that it significantly raised both their own profile and that of PSHE in the school, and lead to a greater professional and personal confidence and effectiveness in their delivery not only of PSHE but other curriculum areas. Pupils report that their PSHE lessons are more enjoyable and other colleagues have benefited through the support of the accredited teacher in curriculum development, team teaching and modelling of good practice.

Completion of the programme also supports the achievement of National Healthy School Status. Successful participants will be accredited by Roehampton University with 30 points at HE3 level, which can be converted to 20 points at Masters level upon completion of a further task if desired. Participants are required to be directly involved in the regular delivery of PSHE and SRE and must have qualified teacher status.
