Sun Safety Campaign | Print |

There is a skin cancer epidemic in the UK, with the Department of Health telling us that skin cancer is now the most common cancer.  Children are particularly vulnerable, as up to 80% of exposure to the sun happens in childhood.

Schools have a role to play in promoting sun safety amongst children, staff and parents.

Sun Safety Policy
School policy guidelines are available to download for primary and secondary schools from http://www.sunsmart.org.uk/ This includes example sun safety policies.

Sun Safety Lessons
The ‘Safety in Education’ CD contains Sun Safety lessons for all year groups in the primary school.  Copies of the CD have been distributed to all Sandwell primary schools.  If you require an additional copy, please contact the Healthy Schools Team.

Additional primary school resources are available to download from http://www.sunsmart.org.uk/

Sun Safety Assembly

Please click here to download a Sun Safety assembly, suitable for primary schools.

Drinking Water
It is essential for children to keep hydrated at all times, and particularly so in the summer months.  All schools should provide free access to drinking water.  Schools may also choose to provide children with a drinking water bottle, or alternatively encourage children to bring these in from home.

Bottles 4 Health supply drinking water bottles complete with the Healthy Schools logo.  Contact Kevin Manning on 01304 204 651
