The Housing Support Service

The Housing Support Service offers short-term support to individuals, to enable them to take on a new tenancy or maintain their existing tenancy with their current or future landlord.

 

The service aims to enable individuals and families to move to independence within a maximum of two years. The service is monitored to ensure that service users are getting the support they require and confidentiality is one of Accord's main priorities.

 

Services on offer

The Housing Support Service offers a variety of services including:

  • Help with applying for welfare benefits.
  • Support with settling rent arrears, attending court hearings, along with financial and budgeting advice.
  • Additional help for individuals who ned to develop their daily living skills e.g. cooking, cleaning, budgeting and dealing with neighbours etc.
  • Re-settlement activities including suppport and independent advice in applying for accommodation with Housing Associations, your local council and private landlords, independent advice on transfers, the HOMES scheme or mutual exchanges and obtaining furniture.
  • Where appropriate the service will refer to and liase with outside agencies to ensure that individuals receive the most appropriate professional help. For example, basic counselling will be offered by the service, however the service will access professional support as and when required.
  • Advice on training, education and local activities within your community
  • Advice on domestic violence issues and assistance with dealing with neighbour nuisance and anti social behaviour.

How do I access the service?

If you are interested in Accord's service then you can make a self referral to the housing support team. You can do this by contacting one of Accord's offices and ask to speak to a Housing Support Officer or Advisor.

 

The Housing Support Officer will arrange a meeting with you to discuss your issues, and will complete an assessment as to whether the service would be beneficial to you. Or alternatively, if you are involved with an outside agency, they can refer you to the service themselves.

 

What happens if I don't want the service anymore?

This is a voluntary service so if you feel that you no longer want the service then you can complete a declaration stating this and the service will end.

 

How much does the service cost?

This service is free and available to anyone whether you are working or on benefits.

Who can access the service?

 

You do not need to be an Accord tenant to access this service. You may be eligible for support if you feel that you are going through difficulties sustaining your tenancy, or you may be an:

  • individual with mental health problems
  • individual with learning difficulties
  • individual with mobility issues
  • older person with support needs
  • young person who is vulnerable or has just left care and has no experience of having their own accommodation
  • individual with financial difficulties
  • individual who has a drug and/or alcohol addictions
  • individual suffering from domestic violence
  • individual who is experiencing racial or non-racial harassment
  • person leaving prison and in need of support
  • or anyone who is experiencing difficulties facing or facing a crisis for one reason or another.

The Housing Support Teams

The Team are trained and committed professionals, whose aim is to provide a good quality and a responsive service to individuals and families in need of support during difficult times.
