The heat can affect anyone but some people run a greater risk of serious harm, including; - older people
- people with a serious chronic condition, particularly breathing or heart problems
- people with mobility problems
Here are some simple things you can do to reduce the risk of harm - Listen to the weather forecast and plan ahead
- Keep out of the heat during the hottest part of the day (11am – 3pm)
- If you must go out, stay in the shade, wear a hat and light cotton clothing.
- A loose damp cloth on the back of your neck or splashing your face several times a day, can help keep you cool.
- Take cool baths and showers if you are able.
- Drink cold drinks regularly, avoiding alcohol, tea and coffee.
- Try to eat more salads and fruit.
If you are unwell seek advice from a health professional. Please help others. Older people should be visited daily to check they are OK.
