Volunteering in the Sikh communitySeva means to 'serve' and also to 'worship'
Sikhism is founded on 'Sarbat Da bhalla' - 'working towards the common good'. for Sikhs, this means reaching out to serve and uplift all humanity as an expression or devotion to the Creator. Volunteers engaged in Seva are referred to as Sevadars and for many people it forms an essential part of their life, providing spiritual fulfilment and practical benefits. Over 200 Gurdwaras across Britain are run voluntarily, covering services such as management committees, day-to-day operations, maintenance, cooking and cleaning - providing many volunteering opportunities for thousands of Sikhs.
