The Safe Project

The SAFE Project is a female run service for women working in the commercial sex industry.

Do You Work Indoors?

If so we can visit you once a month to bring you condoms and supplies, "ugly mugs" (see below), sexual health and drugs information and advice. Our workers will always be happy to talk to you about any other issues.

Street Outreach

We are out and about during the week across Birmingham and Walsall. Call an outreach worker for more details.

Drop-In

  • We have a drop-in from 12 midday to 4.30pm on Mondays, at the St. Patrick's Centre, Highgate Street, Highgate, Birmingham. You can get sexual health advice and treatment and information about drug use. We also have our Options Programme here, where you can learn computer skills or have a range of alternative therapies. Or just come along for a chat!
  • We offer free refreshments and you can also pick up supplies of condoms and lube.
  • We provide a safe place to talk about any issues that are important to you - if you are having problems with your health, domestic violence, housing, welfare rights, legal issues, workers will be happy to talk to you.

The SAFE Clinic

Runs in conjunction with the drop-in and is open Monday afternoons from 1.30 to 4.30pm for all sexually transmitted infections testing, pregnancy tests, contraception, advice, smear tests, and Hepatitis B vaccinations. No appointments are necessary and it's completely confidential.

Ugly Mugs

We print sheets called "Ugly Mugs" giving details of attacks and the attacker to warn you of these incidents.

Have you been threatened, raped or assaulted when working? You can talk to an outreach worker who will take details if you feel able to discuss it and offer you advice and support.

SAFE's Drugs Services

The SAFE project offers women who work in the sex industry a prescribing drugs service. You don't need to have an address or a GP - for more details phone the Sandwell Outreach worker, on 07973 308158

Do You Want To Exit But Don't Know Where To Begin?

We can work with you to look at alternatives and help you with housing, sorting out your benefits, education and training, and refer to any other agencies you think will help you. We know it's a big step and will support you in every way possible.

If You Work Elsewhere

There may be a sex worker project that can offer you a similar service to ours. We also do outreach to women working on the street and indoors in Birmingham and Walsall. Please ask an outreach worker for more details.
